Melo Update

So this is big news. After last nights/ yesterdays nights game(since it is 2:15am) Melo updated the world on what's going on with his situation. Everyone wanted to know what team he would want to play for. Rumors went around about Melo playing in Brooklyn with Nets in 2012 but how likely is that, really? He mentioned in the beginning of the season that he had thoughts on coming to New York. In his statement prior to this one he said that he didn't have his mind made up at yet. Now it's clear that he wants to be Knick. Who wouldn't want to play for New York after last nights game? Crowds chanting 'MVP' at the Garden? since when? Melo knows that he needs that New York energy. (they were chanting from Amare of course) So he has his mind made up. But the question is do we really need him? We can certainly let Curry go and Randolph too, but to trade Gallo or Fields would be a huge mistake. All eyes are Melo now.

Gorillaz At Madison Square Garden

Gorillaz were in town last night for a show at Madison Square Garden folks. I really feel bad for anyone who missed this concert. This band is by far one of the most creative bands out there. They really know how to put on a show man. The visuals were insane, the vibe was insane, the sounds.. the sounds the sounds the sounds were insane! I had two complimentary tickets from Star Trak Entertainment, one for me and one for whoever I wanted to bring out. So of course I called Nell, haha. He had to cancel plans for this but I'm sure he thought it was worth it.

N.E.R.D. opened the show with songs from their latest album 'Nothing' which will be out next month I believe. Hot'N'Fun is the perfect song to get a crowd going. It makes you want to dance with anyone next to you and just have a good time. Lapdance is a different story. When that comes on.. the 'crazy' in everyone comes out, haha. Pharrell is good at bamboozling people. I guess thats his way of building the energy because he was talking for a little bit then out of nowhere Lapdance comes on. It all hits you at once like a pie to the face. The energy alone was enough to leave you speechless. Big up to Star Trak. Big up to Pharrell and yes "different people will take over the world.", Big Big BIG up to Famlay who i was able to exchange words with (Blackberry over iPhone my man!)

The Gorillaz performed tracks from their latest album 'Plastic Beach': Stylo featuring Mos Def & Bobby Womack, Superfast Jellyfish featuring Gruff Rhys & De La Soul, Some Kind of Nature featuring Lou Reed, thats just to name a few. Appearances by Snoop Dogg, the Boogieman himself, Mos Def! De La Soul, Little Dragon, Bobby Womack, Lou Reed, Miho Hatori and of course Damon Albarn (of the Gorillaz), all amazing artist. Damon loves that New York energy. We love you back homie! The band capped of the night with two of the biggest songs, Feel Good inc, Last Living Souls, both off Demon Days and of course Clint Eastwood! off their self entitled album 'Gorillaz' which released in 2001. All in all this was a great show, great experience, great night. Can't wait for them to come back around.

Wednesday I was heading to a studio session and i got there late but on time, haha, i say that because we were all supposed to be at the building by 1pm, I showed up around 1:15, Tyson and Red (MILKMEN) showed up a little after and Ness (producer...who had the only key to the stu) was 45332 hours late man, haha. Just so happens that a frequent viewer was sitting opposite of me on these stairs in front of the building. Just so happens that Red had a little quick shot camera on him(Canon sd 750), so why not use it, right?. I asked to take some pictures of him. Slid him the NYSF card after and he said "Oh?! I check this site out all the time". Before he mentioned anything about the site I thought he was just some random fly dude. Priceless moment. Gained a friend, lost nothing.

Fashion Night Out at BBC & Ice Cream? One word to describe it all? 'FUN'. At around 4pm the usual long line was stretched down the block by the Starbucks on the corner of West Broadway. Kids waited on this line for hours. One person was supposedly was on line since 2 AM yesterday morning. BBC released not one but two limited tees that held more than value. At around 7 PM, N.E.R.D. sent things into disarray with an amazing performance on a at the time.. blocked off street. Talk about shutting shit down. They did it with ease.

This design from 'season 0' in my opinion are the best ever and it's definitely a fan favorite. For those who have been rockin' with the brand since day 1, you know what this logo stands for. This year, BBC released the original white/ black logo season 0 tees, limited of course but they didn't come with a ticket to see Pharrell himself. For FNO (Fashion Night Out) BBC released a Red and a Navy tee. If you were lucky enough you got a ticket or wrist band which allowed you to go inside and meet Pharrell, take a picture or two, get something signed, you know.

N.E.R.D. strolled down the block on this mobile stage. What better way to do things and make a crowd go pistachios? Surprisingly, everyone was calm, lots of screaming but no problems at all. N.E.R.D. performed two new tracks off their new album which is coming out later this year. The bands hit single 'Hot'N'Fun' being one of them. Then they took it back to the good old days and performed 'Lapdance', one of the biggest thrasher songs of all time off there first album In Search Of... which dropped in 2003. The crowd went CRAZY. Chris Brown happened to be on stage too, so i shouldn't have to say how people (especially girls) reacted to that, haha. Check out the people sitting on their window sill. Video is coming so please be patient.

Oh! and don't forget.. "New York is the BEST city" - Pharrell Williams...

Heaven for the musicians out there, producers comfort zone, a canvas for an artist. Running top notch equipment like that Fantom (Keyboard). This will be my second home for the winter and on. I was granted full access to this Dumbo lab without pay. Guess knowing the right people really does pay off. Either that or just having really good friends. For those who don't know, i do make beats. Been doing so for about 7 years now. Gradually moving up and gaining knowledge on whats new out there, equipment wise. I have yet to use the Fantom or even record in an actual studio. I did score a short film though back on campus but that was a group project, haha. Gained everything i can from that. Smarts in pro tools and engineering. The mix is always important, remember that. So with that being said, look forward to some music in the future. And to add on to that, right next door is a photographers/ videographers heaven equip. with green screen and stuff like that, you know you know (drake voice).

Back in the school mode again! To be honest I kind of missed it, with all the online homework, and cramming before a big test, its good to be back!

No books this semester, so where will I write my notes you ask? Well you probably figured that out from the picture above. My App of choice, Evernote. The way this app organizes notes proves really helpful for me, and it syncs directly to the internet. What more could i ask for?

Shooting more black&whites these days. Im taking a film class, and so far i love it. I'm hoping the class will show me the more technical side of photography, and i can convert that knowledge over to digital for better quality pictures. I know what your thinking 'What Nikon and Canon? Together? This is Blaspheme!' Haha. Well even though I do bleed Nikon, i figured I'd give Canon a chance. I went with the Canon Rebel G2, but i didn't forget about the Nikon N50 we talked about in a past post. Both Film cameras, so it balanced, I think. This semester is a little on the light side, a 180 from last semester. I was taking Calculus, Accounting, Economics, and Psychology at the same time. Needless to say, my Gpa suffered. This time around I have to get my Gpa back up, so I decided to put a little more thought into my classes. Film Photography, Graphic design, Black Studies, and Theater Management! Its going to be a interesting semester.

The Cruise Experience

If there's one thing I love more than photography, its family vacations. Whether its just a weekend away from the big city, or a week cruising the calm seas, the thought of no worries and unlimited family fun removes us from the troubles of the world.

This past August I was aboard the Norwegian Jewel, a 7 day cruise from New York to Nassau Bahamas. Needless to say it was mind-blowing, from the awe-inspiring crew members to the alluring destinations, and shore excursions, the trip nothing less than breathtaking.

The first stop we made was Florida where we went on the first shore excursion, Alligator Airboat. Scary by the thought of it, but a once in a lifetime experience. The Airboat took us through the Florida Everglades where these voracious creature reside. After the ride they took

to a shack where we tasted alligator! Don't knock it before you try it, pretty good stuff.

The next stop we made was Great Stirrup Cay, a private island in the Bahamas owned by the cruise line. Here they got the chance to enjoy relaxing music, great food, and the clearest water I've ever seen. I rented a float, sat back, and relaxed on the water as the current drifted me away from shore until the lifeguards alerted me that i was drifting too far.

Last but not least our last stop on the trip was Nassau, Bahamas. The beauty of this place is arresting, and the people here would make you want to drop everything, and move in! In the Bahamas we went on our second shore excursion, Parasailing. 400 feet in the air, you can see the whole island, even the dolphins jumping out of the water. This trip was truly a life experience I'll never forget.

This is Airman First Class Raymundo, and I'm part of THE worlds greatest air force. How does it feel? It feels like I'm Jeter on the m************ Yankees. What do i do to contribute to this team? I fix planes. If it werent for me, pilots would just be regular guys with nice jackets. These pictures were taken at sheppard air force base in Wichita Falls, TX (aka the s***hole of america). - Usually you see pictures of people chillin in hammock, but how many people can say they chilled on the right flap of a c-130?

Hardly home but always reppin'. Picked up Infrareds from a local mall. Chillin' in the shittiest dorm in Air Force history.

When boredom strikes so we play.. UNO! The last few days of training felt like the longest. Our day composed of watching movies, playing uno, and building card towers.

So as RENVOI plays i feel my brain start to stimulate. My 'chakras' are up, my 'chi' is focused, and my spirit is high. I'm sitting here calm as can be with ideas racing through my mind nonstop. Whoever said that being a seer is easy has to be one talented person. With visuals constantly running through my mind, images of my childhood, and goals that I have yet to reach, I find myself often confused and overwhelmed.. but it's a confusion that i love to endure. I know that MAY sound weird but it's the truth. I just want all of you to know that we appreciate you checking in on the site daily. Plenty of work is coming soon along with a new site. New ideas, new ideas.. new.. ideas. These are some references from a shoot thats in the works. Navajo Tribe, close ups of girls with amazing eye shadow, screen shots from some of my favorite music videos (Porsche from Justin Timberlakes 'Cry Me A River' video) and the kids that look like young rebels from Nas' 'One Mic' video are just portions of what I have cooking up in the pot. How am I going to incorporate all this into one shoot? Time will tell, but no doubt in my mind that it will be done.

So my good friend Tyler showed me this picture he drew up about 2 weeks ago and said "I think I'm gonna get back into drawing." On my way home that night I questioned myself. As a kid all I did was draw.. everything: Cars, Rims, Dragonball Z characters, Justice League characters and more. Anything that was in front of me, still or in motion, I was able to put it down on paper, easy. Theres a new sketchbook laying right across from where I'm sitting right now and it's about to get raped. Good looks Tye..

Thinking about my first pair of sneakers has me trippin' out for some reason. I don't even think they were Jordans. They were probably FILA sneakers or something like that... way back the day. I often find myself thinking nostalgically like damn.. back in then everything was totally different. Usually the first thing that comes to mind when i reminisce are sneakers, ahah don't ask me why and if it wasn't sneakers it was cars. Just thought i'd share that.

So for 17 years Generations Records has been one of the top suppliers of vinyl to NYC residents. Generation Records carries used and brand new vinyl, DVD's, 45's, T-shirts, and Posters. Music heads definitely feel at home in this store due to the extensive selection of records. Laid back customer service which allows shoppers to roam around freely and do what they do best which is hunt for music. You can shop here then head next door to Boyds Thai food restaurant for a bite and some good drinks.

Had a shoot for Universal recording artist Baiyu Chen Friday afternoon. We decided to shoot downstairs in the record shop because thats were all the vinyl is. Upstairs were CD's. The shoot went well despite me being short on time. Biayu is a very photogenic girl and super friendly. She made it very easy to work. This was yet another shoot for vainstyle.com. Shout outs to everyone over there. Pictures will be up shortly.

Had this location a few weeks ago for a shoot with Stylist Katherine Polk. Katherine pulled some pretty cool pieces along with vintage Chanel accessories to complete her 3 looks for the shoot. What Goes Around Comes Around is right in the middle of West Broadway, you can't miss it(i couldn't find it though, LOL). The shoot took place in the basement ( surprisingly it didn't look like a stockroom at all. More of an office surrounded by clothing) of the store. We occupied two separate rooms that were completely different from each other. One room was filled with vintage pieces for just for women. (Everything from dresses to minks). The other room was a mix betweens menswear and womenswear. One thing stood out the most and that was this bookshelf with the oldest books you would ever see. - Due to exclusivity reasons, pictures from the shoot will be up a little later on.

On a weekday most people are still sleep at the time that I happened to be awake. 4:45AM, watching Ali, contemplating whether i should run outside or not. 15 minutes flew by and i then realized that the sun comes out to play at around 5:39AM and honestly a sunrise is way more interesting than watching Ali for the 3rd time. I leave with the camera in hand not expecting to see anyone on the beach. Last time i was out this early the beach was totally clear. It's rare that anyone is up on the boardwalk before the runners, walkers, surfers.

5:20AM, no luck.

Bumped into this guy with his cool (stewie voice 'cool') gadget. He definitely told me that he was walking up and down the beach looking for "treasure". This is the usual routine for people over here. Some are lucky while others just find loose change. He said hunting on the beach is the most relaxing thing to do in the morning. It's just you, you're luck, a few seagulls, seashells and the ocean. "You really can drift off into your own little world out here" he said. I couldn't agree more. With that being said, the picture below best illustrates what my world looked like at that point in time..

Ok so I know i'm a little late with this post but it took some time for it to hit me. We all know Lebron will be playing for the Miami Heat along with Wade and Bosh this coming season. Everyones saying that this is the "dream team" calling them the "triple threat" and s***. Honestly, i don't think so at all. They can go on and believe that they're the new Charlies Angels of Miami if they want to but i guarantee you all that the championship trophies, rings, champagne bottles won't be the deal for them this season. No team is going to let them win, let alone have the best record. Lebron straight up took the easy way out which leads to a lost a respect from me. Miami is WADES city and it will stay like that until he decides to play somewhere else. Lebron won't be "King James" out there at all. Bosh? Bosh is no one. Sure he's a great player but he doesn't fit in that box with Wade and Lebron(just in my opinion).

I really wanted Lebron to play in New York not just because thats my team since 93'(technically 95' because thats when i fully understood the game of basketball) but because he could've lived up to his name. Lebron could've carried NYC on his back and led the Knicks down that road of success. I was devastated when he said Miami. Knicks fans - we all want the Knicks to win a championship but i know i don't speak for myself when i say it would be so pleasing to see the Knicks with a good record and a certified spot in the Playoffs. Knicks Basketball will never be how it used to be in 2002 and back, you know, when Sprewell was just that dude on the Knicks, Reggie Miller being the topic of New York when he didn't even play... for New York, or even When John Starks was around, those were the days, damn, wheres Chris Childs with the two piece? Now we have to depend on Stoudiemire to bring it back one time, but can he do it alone? Guess we'll have to wait and see. Tony Parker? Melo maybe?... ha, we'll see.

Reginald F. Lewis Hamptons Benefit

In making a trip to East Hampton to photograph the Reginald F. Lewis Beach Glamour Event, I realized that most people, including myself, don't know who Reginald F. Lewis is. So doing a little reasearch, I decided to solve this problem.

Reginald F. Lewis was born in Baltimore, Maryland to middle class parents on December 7th 1942. In 1965, he graduated from Virginia State University with a degree in ecomomics, then graduated from Harvard Law School in 1968. He was the the first African American to build a billion dollar company, and was named on the Forbes 400 richest Americans list in 1992, with a net worth of 400 million dollars.

The event was to raise money for the Reginald F. Lewis Foundation, and as you can see the property was amazing! Attire was limited to white and aqua, which really put it over the top for me.

NY Aids Walk

AAAHHH!! Just needed to get that out school is killing me, and now that I'm taking finals my social life is on hold. But I thought I'd take a break and relieve stress by putting up a few posts:) So During my hiatus I was able to join a few friends for this years Aids Walk. It was pretty cool I must say, the weather was beautiful and the unified vibe was even better.

The walk was about 6 miles long, which basically covered all of Central Park!. It was worth it though, the least we can do is endure the strain of the walk considering what people with this disease go through. The walk raised $5,717,610! Click here to donate for the cause!

Thinkers Thursday(1/20) took place on the top of 56th and Broadway this time around. Awesome people with extravagant taste and interesting conversation just like all the other events. We were at the top overlooking Central Park. Truly an amazing site.
